    Curtain Fabrics

Curtains Direct & Blinds has a large selection of curtain fabrics to choose from in our showroom. The colour and pattern of your curtain fabrics will be a personal choice based on your preferences and the style of your home décor. The type of fabric you choose should be given careful consideration and matched to the location and desired purpose of the window dressing. When you make an enquiry with our team, we can determine what type of fabric will best suit your needs, and we can even advise on colours and patterns.

    Heavy Fabrics

The weight of the fabric will determine how well the curtains hang. A medium-weight fabric will usually drape better, but there are some situations where heavy fabrics are a better choice. Velvet, silk and heavy damask fabrics are ideal for keeping out the cold and insulating a room in winter. They drape well and add a luxurious and opulent look to your windows. They also block sound and light, especially if they’re lined. However, most are dry clean only, so they’ll be costlier to maintain.

    Lighter Fabrics

Cotton, linen and polyester fabrics are a popular choice because of the huge range of colours and patterns. They are mostly machine washable and easy care, so they’re not as costly as some heavier fabrics, and they drape well. If you’re using these fabrics on a window that receives a lot of sun, it might be wise to add a lining to stop them from fading, and insulate the room in the heat of the day.

    The Lightest of Fabrics

Sheer lace and voile curtains also come in a wide range of colours and patterns and can soften the look of a room, adding a feminine, romantic quality to your room. They diffuse the sunlight and offer a measure of privacy, allowing you to see out of the window while reducing visibility outside your home.

    Thermal and Block Out Fabrics

Thermal and block out curtains have a heavy lining applied to the back of the fabric to insulate and block light. There’s no need to add a lining to your curtains, so they’re a cost-effective option.
